This exotic salmon recipe is full of warm spices inspired by Indian cuisine with a modern twist!
What Is Tandoori?
A rich yogurt marinade gives tandoori salmon bold and unique flavor. Tandoor, a type of cooking in clay pots over fire, dates all the way back to 2600 B.C! In this modern version, salmon is the protein of choice. It is marinated in a thick yogurt marinade that’s full of Indian spices like garam masala and turmeric.
All About The Spices
Garam masala is a spice blend comprised of cinnamon, clove, peppercorn, coriander, nutmeg and mustard seeds. They give off a warm spice aroma and flavor but aren’t spicy like cayenne so it’s a great exotic spice the whole family can enjoy. A splash of lime juice thins the marinade a little bit and adds additional tangy flavor. Since some of the marinade will be left on during cooking there is no need to marinate the salmon for very long. One hour does the trick.
How To Cook This Recipe?
Instead of the clay pots of old-world tandoor cooking, this recipe will be cooked in cast iron under a broiler. Broiling on low gives the salmon time to cook through while giving the outside a nice light char.
Learn About Our Atlantic Salmon
Here at Sizzlefish, our Atlantic salmon is raised in the remote waters off the Faroe Islands, located between Iceland, Norway and Scotland. This salmon species is raised without the use of antibiotics. The flavor is mild and flaky. Note that Sizzlefish salmon portions arrive with the skin on, that’s because the heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids are concentrated along the fat line next to the skin. Each portion of Sizzlefish salmon is available in 4 or 6 ounces.
What To Serve With The Salmon
The tandoori salmon is served alongside pita, sliced cucumber, lime wedges and a creamy cilantro-cucumber sauce. Once you portion the servings, tandoori salmon can be broken into pieces and placed on top of pita with cucumber sauce, sliced cucumber and a squeeze of fresh lime.
