Have you been hearing a lot about adrenal fatigue? It seems to be everywhere I look lately, so I decided it was time to have a chat about it and to share the good news!

But bad news first, the hormone called DHEA — dehydroepiandrosterone — is a crucial anti-aging hormone produced by our adrenal glands. It is also a cofactor in the production of several other hormones. We peak the production of this hormone in our 20’s, and in a perfect world (nutritionally speaking) we would be good to go well into our 90’s. Sadly however, low levels of DHEA are often found in many adults due to — you guessed it — STRESS. Specifically, exhausted adrenal glands.

So let’s chat about how we can create as near to perfect a a world as we can for our adrenals.Technically, foods do not contain DHEA. But certain foods such as wild yams and soybeans might cause the body to produce more DHEA, if needed. If the body has enough DHEA, it will not produce any more, no matter what your diet. This is a safety mechanism controlled by the brain and the adrenal gland. Certain foods such as those high in omega-3 fatty acidssuch as salmon, sablefish, rainbow trout and cod can also help the body to better use its naturally produced DHEA.

So keep calm, and eat more F I S H ><>
