Dungeness Crab Rolls
If you’re craving a seafood dinner that feels indulgent without requiring complicated preparation, these Dungeness Crab Rolls are the perfect choice. Tender Sizzlefish Dungeness Crab Meat is gently warmed in rich, garlicky butter, then tucked into golden, buttery brioche buns and finished with fresh chives and a squeeze of lemon. Simple, satisfying, and ready in minutes, these crab rolls are an easy way to turn quality seafood into an unforgettable meal.
The key to a great crab roll is letting the crab take center stage. Dungeness crab has a naturally sweet, delicate flavor that doesn’t need much seasoning. In this recipe, a generous amount of butter creates a rich sauce that coats every piece of crab, while a touch of garlic powder adds savory depth without overpowering the seafood.
For the buns, split-top brioche hot dog buns are lightly trimmed along the sides before being toasted in butter. This creates a beautifully crisp, golden exterior while keeping the inside soft and tender. Toasting the buns on both sides also gives them enough structure to hold the generous portion of crab without becoming soggy.
Once the buns are golden brown, the crab comes together quickly. Melt the cubed salted butter in a skillet and stir in the garlic powder. Add the thawed Dungeness crab meat and gently toss until everything is evenly coated. Since the crab is already cooked, it only needs a few minutes to warm through. Avoid overcooking it, as prolonged heating can make the delicate meat tough.
To assemble, spoon the warm crab into the toasted brioche buns and garnish with minced fresh chives. Serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side. A squeeze of fresh lemon adds just the right amount of brightness to balance the richness of the butter and brioche.
These crab rolls are easy to customize depending on what you have available.
Dungeness Crab Meat: Lump crab meat or lobster meat can be substituted. Each will have a slightly different flavor and texture, but all work well in this preparation.
Brioche Hot Dog Buns: Traditional split-top hot dog buns can be used instead. Potato rolls are another soft and slightly sweet option.
Salted Butter: Unsalted butter works well; simply add a pinch of salt to the crab mixture.
Garlic Powder: Substitute with 1 small clove of finely minced fresh garlic for a more pronounced garlic flavor.
Chives: Fresh parsley, green onion, tarragon, or dill can be used in their place.
These Dungeness Crab Rolls are especially delicious for a summer lunch, casual dinner, or seafood-inspired gathering. With just a few ingredients and minimal cooking time, they’re an effortless way to enjoy sweet, tender crab in a classic, buttery roll.
